Hey CHUSY!
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Steven Sacks and I’m your 2011-2012 CHUSY Communications Vice President. I’ll take this letter to let all of you know who I am, and generally what I am hoping to accomplish this year. But first, here’s a little background on my life.
While originally a relatively unaffiliated Jewish kid living in suburban Chicago, the beginning of my thirst for a Jewish connection was sparked by CHUSY’s Camp Kadima when I was in 6th grade. By the beginning of my high school career, I had changed camps to Camp Ramah in Wisconsin from JCC Camp Interlaken and became very active my synagogue’s (BTUSY NATION WOOT!!) USY board following in my brother’s footsteps. I could have never predicted, however, the immense social and spiritual changes that have taken me from a public school background family to attending a Jewish day school with daily prayer and Kashrut. These experiences from both the public school and Jewish day school systems gives me a unique perspective, which will enable me to easily relate to, and communicate effectively with all Jewish teens in our community. In my opinion, being a successful communications representative in USY is all about being able to combine the aspects of USY leadership (Israel, Rel/Ed, SA/TO and Mem/Kad) together to inspire even more teens to take up leadership positions in our community.
My Goals this year are easier said than done. I hope to re-do the entire CHUSY website, making it user friendly and comprehensive. I also plan to increase the usage of our CHUSY facebook group, allowing all of the members of CHUSY to know what’s going on, where it’s going on, and when it’s happening. Finally, I hope to help educate all of you on other fun and interesting ways to get involved in the musicality of Jewish life, such as JTeen Radio, Jewish Rock Radio, and a brand new revamped SSL (Sunday Shacharit Live) service.
Overall, I hope that you have a great summer and to see you at USY XL up at Camp Ramah in Wisconsin from August 10th-15th!
